a slight case of overbombing
November 29, 2004

fine. be that way.
so after a few weeks of meaningless posts, i figure i should actually put some effort into a substantial update...

so lets see...since i really did an update, i've finished training and am now working fulltime in the role for which i trained (funny how that works. the job is groovy enough, and folks i sit near are pretty groovy.

my financial chaos is getting a bit better...3 more paycheques and i should be almost caught up...lol. silly rogers cut off my phone, but i should have that resolved by this weekend. the rent situation is still hanging over my head, but with the overlords patience, shall be fully up to date by mid january, maybe sooner if i can stay sane being broke for christmas. christmas is hard as hell for me...has been since i made the realization that i am in fact an orphan, made especially biting by the fact that both parents are still alive, but choose to not be parents...c'est la vie
so i survive the christmas season by finacially compensating for the gaping holes in my emotional state as toys = happy. its going to be especially rough this year, surrounded by 'christmas spirit' and the like at work and a gaping hole in my social life, having ignored my friends last year during my 'sabbatical' from cable. i honestly didn't mean to ignore anybody, i was just incapable of human contact i guess...my current plight is to work as much as possible over christmas and avoid long drawn out spells of christmas tv at home...if i can avoid down time, i should be okay...and the extra hours will certainly help my financial status.

got all heavy there...yowsa. lets see, news on a mellower level...i spent saturday night attempting to get the futon up into the loft. the frame went beautifully, one piece at a time, smooth like butter...the mattress on the other hand took a solid 4 hours of 'magyvering' and eventually ended up needing an intricate setup to make possible. i'd draw diagrams, but i have yet to find visio for linux, so you'll have to imagine for yourself.
the work was well worth the effort though, as i'm loving sleeping up there. its like my own little cubby hole and it keeps me from watching tv from bed and late night email/msn checks.

i've pretty much decided to get a pda for me for christmas. the problem lies in 'which one'...it really doesn't make much sense for me to get a phone model from rogers since my service from bell will be free, with unlimited data. the treo 600 is a beautiful toy, but also seems silly since the 650 is coming and has a far superior camera, is bluetooth enabled and more memory. rogers is offering it at $399 with a 3 year contract, $449 with 2 year, $649 with 1 year and $729 with no term...canada computers is selling it for $599...evil. seems kind of silly to pay that much for a phone i won't get free service on...
so i figure i'll try a pocket pc with no phone for now. in 6 months, when bell gets the treo 650, i'll go that route. i guess...blah. i can't decide. i've litterally changed my mind 4 times since i started writing this paragraph. but hp has this little puppy, which is oooo so sweet...and canada computers is selling it for a cool $668. i wanna i wanna....
thats enough drooling for one night....chances are, i'll change my mind completely, just buy a new power supply for the hate machine, get a new monitor and maybe a sound card...that will leave me with some christmas mad money...not to mention rent.

after the apocalypse....
After the apocalypse, the smart money is on Union Station. There are self-contained carpentry, plumbing, electrical, machine and paint shops, and all sorts of tunnels and fun places to climb and play. On top of supplying the water and steam needs of itself and many of its large neighbours, Union's power substation is also capable of supplying the electricity needs of a good-sized town.

i procrastinate like a pro. be like me.
stayed up all night so i wouldn't sleep in for work, and now i sit and waste time and run the risk of being late...i swear i'll go shower after this cigarette. i swear.
i fixed up my font problem...found a dreamy rpm...i clicked on the link and it installed all windows truetype fonts with no errors or 'TERMINATED!' warnings...if only azureus would install so nicely. if i stick with this fedora thing, its really going to pay off. there are things i really like about this environment...and it excites the ubergeek in me.
shane started a blog tonight, so i think i have readership now. guess i better start saying something useful. here i go...saying something useful...yeah...k, no useful in me. too bad for shane. nothing useful.
i gotta remember to read up on samba so i can start thinking about sharing my ntfs drive for the tv slave machine.
oh my, i sure to blather on when i'm procrastinating...and for the record, i'm listening to rick astley right now. SUCK ON THAT!
well, its time to shower...off i go...

crazy talk!
so i'm all pissed off because my blog looks dumb in fedora firefox and fine in windows firefox....until i figure out i need fonts to make this look right...too bad i haven't a clue in the world how to add a font to linux. maybe one day...and the thought did occour to me that the blog looks dumb to everybody that looks at it, but i say fuck it. its here for me, so there!

hahahaha i'm so silly...
well training is done, monday morning is the breaking of a new phase...our class had 100% success rate. impressive. i'm so glad its over though...a few more weeks and i can meet more folks out on the floor...
this jason kid sounds like a real winner. he gets an email from a strange girl and proceeds to yammer about it on a crazy message board. silly rabbit.
i broke down and formatted my c drive...i'm now running redhat fedora 3...somethings have been easier than others. mounting the ntfs drive has become a bit frustrating as i learned POST install that i can only have read access to the drive...wish i could just convert the stupid thing and make a regular linux file system. the one achievement was the smooth installation of an mp3 player. sweetness. too bad its not winamp...c'est la vie. next i figure out how to get divx working...the fun never stops.
off i go...

wowsa...
dear god, the new u2 cd is sent from above...holy crapenstein

i remember reading an article regarding a poll that was taken of individuals of different age groups, in many countries and asked, without prompting 'if there was one planetary government, who would be the best leader of that government'...I don't remember the actual number, but it was a high percentage (the majority) who said the obvious choice was bono...something to think about.

i'm afraid of americans...
americans do some bizarre things. I should know better by now, yet it never ceases to blow my frickin mind. is it something in the water supply? could it be the air quality? perhaps contaminated food supply? democracy should only be in place when the people aren't dumb as fucking ROCKS! i remember reading a bush quote where he said something along the lines of 'my job would be a lot easier if this was a dictatorship'. well yeah... and if he actually agreed with the concept that 'his job' was running america and not 'creating business for his buddies and increasing revenue for his personal and family business interests', i would say 'get on it, switch to a dictatorship.' but alas, the american public can't even get their shit together to elect a sensible dictator.

which leads me back to my own personal politics...its hard for me to believe that 10 years ago i was fighting to make canada more right wing...but preston manning was so different from what bush is. it was never the right wing mentality that made me support him. i do believe that government should be fiscally responsible. it is not acceptable for a government to spend money it doesn't have. as a consumer i shouldn't buy shit i can't afford. neither should the government. credit should be used for emergency situations, not for maintaining regular expenses. i believe social programs are important as hell, but without the financial chaos associated with the extreme left wing...i don't believe the church belongs in government. in a multicultural environment, its fucking WRONG to govern that environment based on religous beliefs.

preston is very religious, and i know the loons tagged onto his platform...it just went downhill. but the concept was good. i don't think i'll ever doubt that. he was the first honest politician i ever met. he is just a great guy and his integrity was overwealming.

there was a time when i was a big populist, but time and time again, the people keep voting for morons and liars. like chretien. when he was first running for PM, his mandate was to abolish the GST. He wins, and when the next election came along, he didn't say 'hey, you know what? i was wrong, we couldn't afford to abolish the bloody tax.' instead he says 'i never said i would abolish the GST.' WTF is up with that? he lies, and CBC was showing video of him saying 'i promise to abolish the GST'....and he fuckin gets re-elected.

i don't believe the general public is smart enough to elect its own government. how fucked up is that...maybe i'm the one in the wrong...i seem to be the minority....

its a bush party....and the whole world's invited.

so bush wins, by a narrow margin in a lot of places. michael moore is rumoured to be on his way up here to escape the ring wing evil. as much as i try to not be a conspiracy following freak, i can't help but believe this election is in fact the beginning of the end. in the last term, bush had to be worried about being reelected this term...i believe he 'toned down' his original plans because of that...he carried out his insanity, but did it only to the level where he could maintain enough public support to be re-elected. he can't get elected again, so now he has nothing to lose...no reason to maintain public support (no comment on those that voted for the dumbass or why they continue to support him). he's going to waltz into saudi and the rest of the oil bearing countries in the middle east and take what he wants. and the american people voted for this...i guess we'll just have to wait and see.
